A Need for Straight Allies

"We need more straight persons in the Episcopal Church to stand up for their Gay and Lesbian brothers and sisters if we are truly to see equality for them here." - The Rev. Thomas Squiers, Chaplain of Integrity Fort after a presentation given by Barbi Click, Vice President of South Central Region of Integrity.

Integrity is not just an organization for gay and lesbian people. It is an organization for all people who are compassionate about inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people in the church. It is important to have straight allies as many times those are the ones who individuals will listen to who may have misinformation about homosexuality and Christianity. We need straight allies to stand up and tell vestries, clergy, bishops, standing committees, executive councils, etc, about their desire to see the full inclusion of LGBT people in the church - as it is part of our Baptismal Covenant.

Will you who witness these vows do all in your
power to support these persons in their life in Christ?

People      We will.

Celebrant     Will you proclaim by word and example the Good
                 News of God in Christ?

People          I will, with God’s help.

Celebrant      Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving
                 your neighbor as yourself?

People          I will, with God’s help.

Celebrant      Will you strive for justice and peace among all
people, and respect the dignity of every human
                 being?

People          I will, with God’s help.
